  LAUREL SULFATE

All shampoos contain cleansing agents called surfactants. The most frequently used cleansing agents are sodium laurel (or laureth) sulfate and ammonium laurel (or laureth) sulfate.  Surfactants are what make your shampoos lather. However, scientific research suggests certain laurel sulfates can strip the skin of essential fatty acids and disturb its moisture barrier, leaving your scalp dry, itchy and sensitive.

Instead of these harsh cleansing agents, all Mastey products use a mild, lipid-based cleanser, rich in essential fatty acids and a unique moisturising system that adds to your hair and scalp all the moisture, vitamins and minerals needed to grow beautifully conditioned, healthy hair.

P.S. Hairdressers love Mastey

Many hairdressers suffer from dry, sensitive hands as a result of shampooing hundreds of clients each week. Hairdressers that suffer from skin irritations, eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis have switched to Mastey shampoos because its gentle cleansing system does not harm their skin. In fact, Mastey moisturises their hands every time they shampoo.

Suggested Products

Every product in the Mastey Classic, Mastey Pure and Sol Filtré range is free of laurel sulfates.
If you have an extremely sensitive scalp we suggest switching to Mastey shampoos and conditioners. For immediate relief try Mastey Classic's HC Formula + B5.

  DRY, DAMAGED HAIR

Causes
There are a number of reasons why your hair gets dehydrated or damaged: heat (from curling tongs, flat irons, blow drying), U.V. rays (sun, tanning beds), environmental extremes (low humidity, cold winds, hot summer days), mechanical devices (combs, brushes), chemicals (colouring, perming, straightening, pool chemicals) and a poor diet (specifically a lack of proteins and essential fatty acids).
Treatments
The treatment of dry, damaged hair is easy with the right shampoo, conditioner and intensive treatment. We recommend you use:
For an intensive leave-in treatment, we suggest:
For split ends try:
  • HC Formula + B
  • Play Smooth
  • Mastey Pure Lockdown
  • Topcare P3 Repair Fluid
  COLOURED HAIR
Colour fading is a common problem for people with coloured hair. Research shows up to 75 percent of the colour in colour-treated hair fades after just four weeks in the summer sun, whilst people with natural hair will notice their hair colour lighten by at least 50 percent during summer.
All of the shampoos, conditioners, treatments and styling products in the Mastey Classic, Mastey Pure and ABBA range are colour safe.
In addition to these colour safe products, Hairtech has a range of products designed to deposit colour pigments into colour treated hair. This enhances the vibrancy of your coloured hair and helps to minimise colour fading. For longer lasting and brighter hair colour try:
  FINE HAIR
Fine hair can often look flat and dull, it can also be quite porous. Because of this porosity fine hair tends to absorb excess moisture. Too much moisture will weigh it down, causing the hair to look limp.
It is important to be very gentle with fine hair. When brushing use a soft boar bristle brush (like BKBS) rather than a plastic brush or comb which will cause frizzy, flyaway hair. Try to avoid over exposure to the elements and always rinse your hair immediately after swimming to remove salt or chlorine.
Hairtech have a number of volumising products for fine hair, we suggest:
For extra root lift and volume when styling, try:

  OILY HAIR

A certain amount of oil is healthy, in fact, it's necessary for your hair to remain in optimum condition, however, too much oil can cause our hair to look dirty and lank.
What causes oily hair?
Quite simply, oily hair is caused by an oily scalp (or an overactive sebaceous gland). The use of too much product or the wrong product for your hair type (e.g. heavy product for fine hair) can also contribute to oily hair.
People with oily hair tend to wash it more frequently. Cleansing oily hair with harsh surfactants such as laurel sulfates will strip away the scalps natural oil and protective mantle.  To compensate the scalp's sebaceous glands produce even more lubricating sebum which perpetuates the problem of oily hair.  The glands that produce oil are also stimulated by hot water and massage. When cleaning oily hair, we suggest:
  • Shampoo with the flat of your fingers (rather than the tips)
  • Avoid vigorous brushing (this will stimulate the scalp)
  • Take lukewarm showers
  • Try shampooing your hair less frequently. Twice a day is too much.
People with oily hair should try the following products:

  FRIZZY HAIR
What causes hair top frizz?
Hair has a natural positive(+) charge. Negative(-) charges are caused by shampooing, styling with hairdryers, exposure to environmental elements, friction from brushing, styling tools and products.  The presence of both positive(+) and negative(-) charges in the hair increase frizzy, flyaway hair and tangles.
Frizzy hair needs moisture enriched products. We suggest:
To de-frizz when styling, remove excess moisture from your hair, then apply an anti-frizz product, such as:
  CURLY HAIR
Beautifully defined, frizz free curls is easy if you use the right haircare products. Naturally curly hair has a tendency to be dry and often brittle. It's important to cleanse with a moisture enriched shampoo and nourish with an intensive moisture treatment as this will help to control the frizz!! We suggest:
The right styling products will also help to define and control your curls, try:
Alternatively, if you have dead straight hair and desire beautiful curls, we suggest asking your hairdresser for a Mastey Permcision Self-Timing Perm or ABBA True Shapes Acid Wave Perm.
  STRAIGHTENING HAIR
A smooth transition from curly to straight hair requires the right tools, the right products and loads of patience. Depending on how rebellious your hair is, straightening at home can involve lots of time with your blow dryer or straightening iron. The right products are essential to keep hair frizz free and straight.
Styling products should offer protection from heat styling and lock out any moisture as damp atmospheres and humidity will spring curls back into your straightened hair.
In preparation for straightening hair, we suggest you use:

To straighten hair, try:

Hairtech's 2 in 1 Straightening Brush is the ideal tool for smoothing out kinks and curls.

Another alternative is Hairtech's Unisystem Straightener, a professional straightening system for use in professional hair salons only. So ask your hairdresser.

  SUMMER HAIRCARE
The evaporating action of sun, wind, salt and chlorine means 33% more moisture is sucked from your hair during the summer months whilst exposure to UVA and UVB rays can cause coloured hair to fade. Your hair needs extra protection during summer.
Detoxifying shampoos are also essential during summer (in fact you should detox your hair every 6-8 weeks all year round).  We suggest:
  DANDRUFF, PSORIASIS, ECZEMA

According to the Australasian College of Dermatologists, dandruff affects about 50% of Australia's population. Psoriasis affects about 3%. So you are not alone.

What causes dandruff?
Hairdressers, Trichologists and skin specialists agree the causes of dandruff are many and varied.
Zeal is a range of shampoos, conditioner and styling product specifically designed to prevent the formation of dandruff and repair skin damage caused by dandruff.
Zeal's mild cream-based cleansing system does not irritate the scalp, it helps to preserve a healthy acid mantle and sooth itchy, dehydrated skin. Importantly, Zeal also contains essential fatty acids and Zinc Pyrithione, the number one ingredient used in the fight against dandruff.
